Russell M. Cunningham, IV : Mr. Cunningham practices in the areas of general business and corporate law; business planning; federal and state & local taxation (including tax controversy/litigation); real estate; real estate finance; economic development; and wills, probate, and estate planning. Prior to establishing the Cunningham Firm, LLC, he worked with Bradley Arant Rose & White in its Birmingham, Alabama office from 2000 until 2005. He was a member of its Tax and Corporate & Securities Practice Groups.
Mr. Cunningham has co-authored book chapters on the state taxation of business entities, including chapters in the treatises Keatinge and Conaway on Choice of Entity and State and Local Taxation. He has also authored articles on tax and business planning issues for periodicals such as State Tax Notes, The Limited Liability Company Reporter, and Alabama Technology Today. He frequently speaks to business and professional groups on business law, business planning, and taxation issues.
Mr. Cunningham is a member of the American Bar Association, where he is an active member of the Tax Section’s Partnerships Committee and the Business Law Section’s LLCs, Partnerships and Unincorporated Entities Committee. Mr. Cunningham is also a member of the Alabama State Bar, serving as chairman of its Southeastern Region IRS Liaison Committee, and the Birmingham Bar Association. In addition, he serves on the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Finance & Taxation Committee and Entrpreneur’s Roundtable.
Mr. Cunningham attended Vanderbilt University from 1989 until 1991. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management in 1993. Mr. Cunningham is a 1998 honors graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law, where he was student editor of The American Journal of Tax Policy. He also holds an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law. Mr. Cunningham also obtained the rank of Eagle Scout.
